Autumn/Winter Makeup Trends 2016

Coming to life earlier this year on the Paris & Milan Fashion Week runways, this year’s iconic Autumn/Winter makeup looks have been unveiled. From glowing skin, wow brows and the slight introduction of glitter we have witnessed throughout the summer months, we’re chatting about the latest trends set to take over the Autumn/Winter makeup scene and make our makeup collection that little bit larger.

Berry Red / Blackcurrant Lips

Dominating the Autumn/Winter runways this year, many cosmetic brands have gone big on the berry red, blackcurrant, ‘edge of black’ lip colours creating the ultimate gothic beauty look. Created by Peter Philips, Christian Dior’s Creative Director, the Rouge Dior Poison lipstick transforms the lip from the last thing you think about to the first thing people look at – the focal point on your face. Prominent on the runways at Rodarte, Marni, Louis Vuitton and Dior, this black-cherry, deep, dark and dramatic look is set to be a huge trend for the upcoming season.

Tip: whether you opt for a matte or a glossy lip, this looks should be paired with a relatively basic look – think a simple flawless base and a neutral eye with perfectly groomed brows to really draw attention to the lip.

Strobed, Glowing Skin

As we’ve said before, it’s no secret we love a bit of highlighter and we welcome glowing skin all year round! From highlighting and illuminating creams and powders used to accentuate your natural beauty, this autumn winter season will be all about the strobed effect to glowing skin. The act of adding an extra glow to the face’s high points, creating a natural shimmer, strobing differs from highlighting in the sense that it doesn’t combine the contoured element to conceal any parts of your face. It seems the strobing trend is here to stay with Isabel Marant and Vera Wang rocking the strobed look on the A/W runways.

With strobed skin finished off with a peachy glow at Gucci and with iridescent powder dusted across the cheekbones, eyelids and cupids bow at Valentino, we expect to see more and more of this coming into the winter months.

Tip: achieve that radiant glow by highlighting cheeks, cupids bow and under your brow bone to accentuate your brows. Channel your inner Stella McCartney by adding a pop of highlight into your inner corner.

Glitter Lips

With glitter growing in popularity since the summer, there wasn’t a makeup artist at any A/W fashion show that didn’t touch glitter in one way or another – glitter is growing to be the makeup essential for 2016/17. With glitter being used on the face and eyes, the Versace show at Paris Fashion Week brought the glitter lip to life with the Labs Lust Lipstick (created by popular makeup artist Pat McGrath).

Now we know glitter might seem a bit daunting but don’t let this trend intimidate you – it’s time to rock it. If you are opting for a glitter lip, be careful to only use cosmetic glitter as anything harsher than that will wreak havoc with your lips and skin. For a glitter lip we recommend finding your perfect lip colour, loading up with lip lacquer and packing on a similar glitter shade bit by bit to create your desired effect.
