Craft your way to a stylish bathroom

Visited a bathroom showroom recently? Stunning collections of pristine suites and carefully styled accessories can make the reality of a perfect water closet seem distant. In reality, however, a grand refurb isn’t always needed. At Illuminated Mirrors we’re huge fans of that individual touch and love nothing more than adding personality through specially crafted additions.

Read on for a few of our top suggestions for crafting a stamp on even the most boring restroom.

Make your own art

Make your own seashell bathroom picture

Painting or drawing skills about as good as a five-year-old’s? That doesn’t have to stop you creating your own masterpiece – especially for your bathroom. Using patches of fabric, stencils or sticking (light) objects to card in frames makes for a bang-on-trend statement without the need for Picasso’s dexterity.

If your bathroom is nautically themed, putting shells (with or without sand) on a board or canvas can be incredibly effective. What’s more, the kids can even get involved in helping and, regardless of how hard you find painting normally, the sense of satisfaction when you hang it up totally overtakes any bad feelings.

Fill coloured pots with accessories

Bring a touch of life to the most boring of rooms with coloured pots and jars. Too many different shades on a wall or in big accessories can chop up a space, making it look smaller. Small, functional and oh, so on trend – fill jars with shells, gems, old make up…anything you can think of. They’re a great talking point, cheap, and amazingly stylish. What’s not to love?

Place candles in a jar

Candle in jar stylish bathroom craft ideasIs there anything better than a relaxing bath? Favourite bubble bath in, glass of the best beverage in your hand, music on…world, forgotten. For that ultimate spa experience we love placing a few candles around the bath. Placing them in a jar (complete with gems, marbles or shells) is an easy-peasy craft that even the most DIY inept of us can do. The jars look tidy (free of any dripping wax) even when they’re not lit, while their glow is made even stronger – calming enough to bring a lovely feeling to even the darkest of evenings.

Rope around plain accessories

Continuing with a nautical theme, a touch of rope around everyday, boring accessories can make a huge impact on the feel of your room. From hanging pictures using the material, to wrapping it around your bin or storage containers, plain items can be utterly transformed.

What’s more, it’s durable and won’t wear down easily. If you decide you don’t like your current offering it can be removed and used elsewhere – recycling made simple and style even easier.

Crafting made easy

These are a few of the easiest ideas available. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous or skilful (or if you have a bathroom big enough to make a princess jealous) you can even try and incorporate fabrics like cushions, bath mats and stencils on walls – no interior designer knows your tastes better than you!

However, we know the artistic life isn’t for all of us. If you’re still not convinced, think about the accessories you purchase – whether it’s a Hollywood mirror for a touch of glam, or a shaving cabinet you can play your music through – the secret to true style is making the essential that little bit more luxurious.
