Make your bathroom pop with Rose Quartz and Serenity

Every year, the colour specialists at Pantone release a colour of the year – in essence this is a colour snapshot of what they see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of mood and attitude. Back in 2013, the colour of the year was Emerald green, followed by Radiant Orchid in 2014 and Marsala in 2015. However, for the first time ever in 2016, Pantone released not one but two colours of the year – Rose Quartz and Serenity.

According to Pantone, Rose Quartz (a softer shade of pink to radiant orchid) is a ‘persuasive yet gentle tone’ set to convey a sense of compassion. Serenity on the other hand is a soft, powdery shade of blue, conveying a sense of weightlessness and bringing feelings of relaxation. Sitting at opposite ends of the colour wheel, both the warm tones of Rose Quartz and cooler tones of Serenity complement each other and we think they are absolutely perfect shades for bathrooms.

Although bathrooms tend to be the smallest rooms in our homes (unless you live like the Kardashians), many of us opt for neutral shades to make them appear bigger. However this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experiment with colour – quite the opposite actually. Here are our top tips for going all out with this years colours of the years as well as adding a simple pop of colour to your bathroom.

If your bathroom is in need of a refresh and you have fallen head over heels in love with Rose Quartz and Serenity, you could go all out and use colour in a big way.

  • Experiment with tiles: gone are the days of tiling your full bathroom in a patterned tile. Think feature wall with tiles and you’ll be more on trend. Modern bathrooms use titles to draw attention to a focal point and this is where you can use Rose Quartz or Serenity. Why not accentuate your tiles with the same colour accessories for a further pop of colour.
  • DIY and make your furniture pop: why not make some fun out of it and do it yourself. Rather than buying new furniture, try upcycling the furniture you have. As Rose Quartz and Serenity are lighter shades, you can afford to incorporate these into your larger pieces of furniture and pull it off. If you don’t fancy upcycling your furniture, why not opt for soft pink coloured marble for your countertops for a chic finish?
  • Accent walls: if adding colour to every wall in your bathroom is a little too much, you could opt for one feature wall. The key here is selecting the right wall for your showpiece – a wall which has a strong focal point or the wall directly facing the door tend to work best for feature walls.

Another of this years main trends is white on white and we’re absolutely loving it! If you are seeking the more minimalist of bathroom looks, you can incorporate both Rose Quartz and Serenity to ensure your bathroom remains light and airy.

  • Towels: instantly adding a pop of colour to your bathroom, towels are inexpensive, available in every shade of every colour you could ever want and are low commitment to a colour. If you’re looking to keep up with yearly colour trends, towels are super easy to swap every year.
  • Rugs and mats: both bath mats and rugs can add a pop of colour as well as being a functional bathroom item. Paired with towels of the same colour will continue the theme throughout.
  • Accessories: if towels and rugs aren’t enough, you can continue the colour theme into your accessories too. Think candles, jars to hold your essentials and colour plant pots adding some greenery to you bathroom too – this will complete the look.
  • Wall art: if you’re into art, hanging pieces on your white walls will have great impact. However, be careful to choose a water resistant print or add a glass frame to prevent it getting damaged.

So, what’s your thoughts on Rose Quartz and Serenity? Are you rating or hating? Would you use them individually or separate? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter.
