5 accessories that’ll make your bathroom a nicer place to be

The bathroom is often considered a room of function over fashion and, as such, the average bathroom experience is usually a ‘get in, get out’ affair. With showers usurping baths in most homes and spa days becoming increasingly popular, the British public seems to have given up on treating themselves at home.

We think that’s a massive shame. With life getting more hectic by the minute, we think every home should have its own utopian bathroom retreat where stress is carried away on the steam of a nice hot bath. We’re advocates for having a little luxury in the bathroom, including our own selection of bathroom mirrors.

With that in mind, here are a few accessories that are guaranteed to make your bathroom a nicer place to be – the kind of place you might just want to spend a few hours in!

LED tea lights

While a lot can be said for meditation, feng shui and yoga, we reckon the best stress reliever on the planet is a bubble-laden bath by candle light.

Unfortunately, candles and water don’t go particularly well together. With just one overeager splash while reaching for the soap, a relaxing bath in dim, soothing light can become a scary dip in the dark!

LED tea lights provide the perfect solution, mimicking the light of a candle without the fear of putting it out. What’s more, these lights are completely waterproof and, in some cases, can even be floated on top of the water for a truly relaxing experience.

An audio mirror cabinet

You knew this was coming, didn’t you? While we don’t like to blow our own trumpets too much, we really do think our audio mirrors make the bathroom a nicer place to be.

Using Bluetooth technology, our audio mirror cabinets allow you to connect your phone or music-playing device directly to two speakers at the top of the cabinet. Your favourite tunes, in the bathroom, without having to endure tinny phone speakers. What more could you ask for?

Our good friends at Love Chic Living are currently holding a competition to WIN one of our audio mirror cabinets – head over to their blog to enter!

Mood lighting

Bathroom lighting can be quite harsh, which makes many bathrooms quite unwelcoming. Harsh lighting is essential for some purposes – namely applying makeup, doing your hair or waking up on a cold, dark October morning – so it is important to keep an element of it, but adding mood lighting can immediately transform your bathroom into a Zen paradise.

Mood lighting can take many forms and for many, a simple lighting dimmer switch will more than suffice. If you fancy something a bit more elaborate, our ambient bathroom cabinets include a coloured mood lighting feature.

A bathroom chandelier

We’ll say it straight away; a chandelier in the bathroom (or anywhere in the home, for that matter) isn’t going to be for everyone. Done wrong, chandeliers have more than a bit of ‘Del Boy chic’ to them.

Done right, however, a chandelier can make a stunning addition to the bathroom. This is especially true if you decide to opt for something a bit different; here’s an example from House to Home of a bathroom tied together wonderfully by a chandelier.

The Swarovski Duck

Aww, who doesn’t love a good old rubber ducky?

Your bank manager, that’s who, if you decided to buy this Swarovski-crystal encrusted rubber duck. As cute and sparkly as it is, the duck cost a heartbeat-skipping $1,000 (around £620) when it was sold on Etsy. The duck was encrusted with 5,000 Swarovski crystals and was a one of a kind piece. Although we’re sure they’d be more than willing to knock you up another if you asked nicely (and brought your credit card).

As you can see, it’s the little things that make the bathroom a nicer place to be and it needn’t cost you an arm and a leg to start enjoying your bathroom a little bit more. If you’ve got any more bathroom accessory suggestions, let us know on Twitter @bathroom_mirror, on or Facebook.

Oh, and don’t forget to enter Love Chic Living’s competition to win an audio mirror!
