Make your bathroom seem bigger with mirrors

If you have a smaller bathroom, it can be difficult to keep it feeling light and airy. Fitted furnishings can often make the space feel even more enclosed, and smaller windows – sometimes no windows at all – leave the room dark and dreary.

That’s where mirrors come in. With clever positioning and a little creativity, a few well-placed mirrors can really brighten up a small bathroom, creating the illusion of more light and space.

Below, we’ve compiled a few tips on how you can best utilise mirrors to enhance your existing space.

Position a mirror opposite a window

By doing this, you’re making sure that the main source of natural light in the room is being reflected elsewhere by the mirror. This will instantly make the room seem brighter and bigger. Even better, if you have a lovely view outside your bathroom window this will be reflected too, creating the illusion of much more space.

Maximising on natural light also means that you can save money on your electricity bill in the long run because you won’t need to keep switching on the lights!

Create the illusion of more space

Use mirrors to trick your eyes into thinking there’s more space than there really is by strategically placing one. It’s a technique often used by interior designers.

Place a full length mirror behind a linen basket or storage unit to reflect the image of the rest of the room and give the impression that the room continues beyond the mirror. As well as giving the impression of more space, this will also brighten the room more.

Plus, leaning a full length mirror against a wall is a trend that’s becoming ever more popular in interior design, creating a really simple yet stylish statement.

Get creative

Get creative with the shape of the mirror you choose. Straight, angled bathroom furniture can often make a room seem smaller than it is and a round or curved mirror will create an effective contrast to this.

If you’re really daring, use multiple mirrors dotted around the room to bounce light off each other and brighten it up that way. You can make a real statement with different shapes and colours.

Why not take a look through our extensive range of illuminated mirrors to see if there’s anything you can do to maximise on the space in your bathroom? We might be biased, but we think mirrors make the perfect addition to any room!
