New year, new bathroom

A new year means an inevitable update of one element in your life. You could go for the age-old, new year, new me trend or you could opt for something much more fulfilling and permanent… new year, new bathroom?

Out of all the rooms in the house, it would seem that the bathroom is the most neglected room of all, it’s the place where you spend the least time, yet, it’s an integral part of getting ready every day. So, it’s time to give your bathroom some loving, with the below updates, you can transform from dull to delightful in no time.

Update the fixtures

What once seemed modern ten years ago, can look remarkably dated and off trend, however, original features hold a sense of style throughout the ages. If you can find original fittings, they can add a great vintage look to your bathroom. If your home has been recently built, then simple updates to taps, door handles, shower curtains and toilet seats can make the world of difference. However, if you have a little more cash to splash, then a new sink and bath will completely refresh your bathroom space.

Wet room

If like many, you have an awkward, small bathroom, you may consider turning the entire space into a wet room. Whilst the initial costs may seem high, the benefits of having a wet room should justify all expenditure. The absence of a bath gives you some much needed extra space, but also an amazing space to shower in, a large, non-constricting room, that will have you dancing around your bathroom for hours!

Add a splash of colour

Most bathrooms are notoriously dull, with the classic colour palettes ranging from white to cream, they are not the most inspiring of places. This can, of course, change dramatically with a few additions, whether they be dramatic or minimal. A lick of paint to one wall in your bathroom will bring the room to life with grey, navy and olive palettes working remarkably well. Another way to add colour is through accessories; plants are a given, adding bursts of green across the room can make such a difference. You can also add accents of colour through your towels, bath mats and tiles, adding hints of orange and yellow are a winning combination against a white background… the possibilities really are endless with the gift of colour!

Mirror update

Adding a mirror to your bathroom setup is a quick and effective way to add depth, extra light, and colour. You can simply update your current mirror by sanding down wooden edges and re-painting, or you can treat yourself to a fabulously high-tech update. Whether you fancy yourself as a star and opt for a Hollywood mirror or prefer a unique style, there will be a mirror that perfectly reflects your style.

Be sure to do some research before updating your bathroom, the inspiration online will give you enough ideas to last a lifetime, but ones that will really make your bathroom shine bright.
