2017: The resolutions to keep.

January; the month of promises, resolutions and all things fitness. Every year, we vow to change the way we live, eat and exercise. For some of us, these resolutions become our new lifestyle, making a genuinely positive change in your life. However, for the majority of us, they become a distant memory as soon as February comes.

To help you ease into a slightly healthier, active and exciting year, we have put together some of our own resolutions to give you a helping hand this 2017.

Get your walking boots on

It’s time to brace the cold and get your body moving. Consider ways in which you can start to become more active; take your lunch break as an opportunity to go for a 30 minute walk or start walking home from work. Being active for just an hour a day can make a remarkable difference to both your health and weight; this aerobic exercise will put all your major muscles to work, as well as working your lungs properly with an increased intake of oxygen. If you set yourself a target of an hours walk per day, on average, you will be burning 267 calories per day; not to mention you will be lowering your risk of obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure… it’s a no-brainer!

Set yourself a target

Last year, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, set himself a very attainable resolution to read 24 books in the year. It may sound a lot, but this is on average just 2 books per month, at a moderate reading pace. If you set yourself a reasonable target, there is no reason why you can’t achieve. Straying away from the obvious health improvements, there is a vast choice of targets you can work towards this year; including visiting a new country, learning the basics of a new language, meeting new people, sleeping more and reducing the amount of time spent on your phone. Any challenge that you set yourself will build your confidence, especially once you have achieved it; there is no target too small, so go forth and explore the possibilities!

Gain control

Many of us will lose control of some part of our lives at one point or another. You may have simply lost your motivation, body confidence or are struggling to find your path in a career. There are many contributory factors as to why this happens to us, from emotional bumps in the road, to change of mood, however, now is the time to regain control of what was once yours. This may be healthy eating; something that seems so simple, but can slip away easily. Take small steps towards gaining control; cut out additives and sugars and start making as much of your food from home as possibly can. If you are stumped in what to do professionally, start brainstorming your interests, skills and ambitions; find a new path to walk down. Simply putting your mind and full attention to any task will result in you succeeding and getting your confidence back, which is what matters the most.

2017, is the year that you can and will; own it!
